Play Wii DVDR Backups without a Modchip

Back in July of this year, bushing over at Hackmii announced that he had identified a potential security issue that would allow pirated games Wii games to be played on an unmodified Wii console.  It appears that Nintendo did respond to his post and he has since begun a dialogue with them to explain his findings.  It seems that now bushing is not the only one to have identify an exploit for playing DVD backups on an unmodded Wii.  WiiGator at Tehskeen not only found an exploit, but he took it a step further and released a backup launcher complete with source code.  Read More »Play Wii DVDR Backups without a Modchip

PageRank 0 to 3 in Under 30 Days

Less than a month ago, I set out to create this blog.  GeekLad was “born” on September 3, 2008.  Although I had learned quite a bit about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) when I created my personal finance blog back in January, I’ve learned quite a bit more with my launch of GeekLad.  I’ve been keeping a close eye on my PageRank and tonight I was pleasantly shocked to learn it has already hit three!  I think it was many months before WealthBoy ever hit PR3.  I’d like to share with you some of the things I’ve learned over the course of the past month, and perhaps touch on some of the things that I believe that have helped me to reach a PageRank of 3 in less than 30 days.

New Version of Google Toolbar for Firefox

When Firefox 3 was officially released, the Google Toolbar was not supported.  Of course, that didn’t stop me from manually updating the MaxVerison myself so that it would work.  Although it didn’t take long for Google to release a new version that officially supported Firefox 3, I was disappointed as there were no new features to be found.  It seems all they really did was update the MaxVersion as I had already done.

Laptop as a Wireless Router

You may some day come across the rare situation of temporarily needing an extra wireless router.  I can’t really think of a good example, but I know that I encountered such a situation yesterday.  I decided I would write up an article as it may prove useful to others that may find themselves in a similar situation some day.

Google Chrome Socks Proxy Workaround

If you would like to use Google Chrome at work, but are unable because you have a SOCKS proxy, you’re not alone.  It is a known issue that Chrome does not work with socks.  Initially I couldn’t even install Chrome because of my firewall at work.  I did install it on my laptop when I got home the day it came out.  However, when I came back to work the next day I was disappointed to learn that it didn’t work behind a SOCKS proxy.

New Theme Marketplace

This morning I read about a new theme marketplace that Envato has launched.  The marketplace is called ThemeForest and it features themes for WordPress, DrupalTypepad, Movable Type, BloggerJoomla, and more.  The prices for themes range from $10 to $50.  It seems like the Our Community theme has made the most money so far, with 53 sales @ $30 each for a gross total of $1,590 (the author’s cut is probably 25% – 35% of that).
