Find Free WordPress Themes with Google Image Search

The other day, I helped my friend set up a new recipe blog on WordPress. We were looking for a good cooking or food WordPress theme, but the built-in WordPress theme search wasn’t yielding a whole lot of results. When I searched on Google, I noticed the section for Google Image results had a lot of thumbnails for WordPress themes. I then viewed the Google Image search results, and I was amazed how many of the results were thumbnails of WordPress blog themes.

Free WordPress Theme Search Engine

Welcome to the Free WordPress Theme Search Engine. I created a Google Custom Search Engine to automatically perform a Google image search for free WordPress themes. It tends to work quite well, as the majority of the results you see in your search will be thumbnails for free WordPress themes on your chosen topic.

To use it, just provide a search term for the kind of theme you want for your WordPress blog. Clicking the thumbnails will take you to the page with the theme you saw in the thumbnail. For example, if your blog is all about sports cars, try searching for sports cars. Most of the search results you see will be thumbnails of sports car WordPress themes.

The search engine page can also accept parameters, if you want to share the results with others. For example, if you want to show your photographer friend some free photography WordPress themes, just link to

New Theme Marketplace

This morning I read about a new theme marketplace that Envato has launched.  The marketplace is called ThemeForest and it features themes for WordPress, DrupalTypepad, Movable Type, BloggerJoomla, and more.  The prices for themes range from $10 to $50.  It seems like the Our Community theme has made the most money so far, with 53 sales @ $30 each for a gross total of $1,590 (the author’s cut is probably 25% – 35% of that).
